Head back down the hill to the northwest and follow the trees northeast to the clearing where Gildor is guarding the flock of sheep.

Completing this quest successfully can be a pain depending on your level. Depending on your level, the 7 Wolves that spawn after you talk to Herder Gildor for the first time will either wander around aimlessly, or attack both you and Herder Gildor. Since Gildor is not in your party, it is very easy for him to die before all the Wolves are dead, causing you to fail the quest.
