Patches and Expansion for this game can be acquired via downloads.

Why: The separate language versions allow the individual regional distributors (eg Encore in the US, Ascaron in the UK) to determine the levels of gore & copy protection that are used in their regions. Because of this, Ascaron does not allow discussion of ways to convert between language versions, or enable gore in versions that do not support it on their forums. For Sacred Plus, the language version is determined by the third number in the version number. For example, the current UK version is 1.8.2.6. The 1.8.x.6 means that it is the current version of Sacred Plus, the 2 means that it is the UK version. Underworld changed the patch numbering slightly, in that it was originally released as 2.20, the first (non-German) patch was 2.24 (for all language versions) & then 2.28.

How: When applying patches, it is always best to make a backup of the Settings.cfg file in your Sacred directory & the \Saves\ sub-directory, as these may be over-written when you update your copy of Sacred. There are two versions of patches for the original Sacred & Plus. A large patch (~130 Meg) & a smaller patch (~10 Meg). The larger patch is necessary for those players who bought the original Sacred, and it contains the free Plus update. The smaller patch is for players who have either bought Sacred Plus (a version of Sacred which includes the first Plus update, v1.8) or have updated to Sacred Plus (but not the current version). To make matters more confusing, some versions of Plus were sold in Original Sacred boxes, so the best way to determine which version you have is to check the version number. Some players have also reported that despite having bought Sacred Plus, they needed to install the larger patch, then the smaller patch in order to get things to work properly.

As each patch makes many changes, it is best to save & export your Single Player characters before applying any patches, this is because Sacred may well not open your save games from a prior patch without errors. It is also not possible to revert to an earlier patch if you have played with your character in a later patch, if you don’t like some of the changes.

Additionally, with v2.28, Sacred Underworld/Gold merged all of the English versions, giving a single English/International patch.
