Resistances play a large role in the world of Ancaria and learning something about them may save you from alot of hardship. You may be wondering why you need to know about such a thing, you've killed lots of enemies with no trouble. Well, most likely your playing on a lower difficulty such as bronze or silver, where resistances aren't really in effect. When you start through gold or higher, you just may want to know alittle about this topic.

So, what exactly are resistances? Well, a resistance is the ability to withstand the effects of some kind of harmful damage. Every enemy in the game has some kind of resistance and not always just one kind, however, no enemy will have a resistance to every kind of damage though. Resistances don't provide the enemy with complete immunity to the respective damage type, just a very high defense against them. Being able to identify the type of resistance the enemy has will help you from having some very long battles.

Overview

Types and Identifying Resistances

First we'll discuss the types of resistances you will encounter on your journey. Below you'll see a list of these resistances.

  • Light Blue:

Type

  • Physical
  • Fire
  • Magic
  • Poison
  • Ice

You may have noticed that 4 of these are just like the relics you can equip, and you are correct in that assumption. Players can also have resistances against these kinds of damage through the relics equipped (fire, magic, poison, and ice), and armor (physical).

Physical resistance protects against all weapon types, the other resistances will protect against weapons to if you've slotted them with an item that causes the weapon to use that damage type. These resistances can also protect against CA's (aka. Combat Arts) if they deal that respective damage type.

So you know the types of resistances now, but how do you find out which ones your enemy has. To display the information on the enemies your fighting click the left joystick. You'll see some identification about your enemy: the enemy's name, damage channels, and resistances. The name will be displayed on top, with the damage channels on the left and the resistances on the right.

Now that you know the types of resistances found in Ancaria and how to identify which resistances your the enemy is using your journey throughout Ancaria should be less painful. So the next time you decide to charge blindly into battle, remember resistances, it just might save you.
