Artamark's Gate is a city that's blessed (cursed?) with two distinct cemetaries. There's one on either side. On the east, there's the burial mound known as the Grave of the Ancestors and to the west there's Arenmark's Refuge.

There are plenty of graves, memorials and such located in this cemetary.

Gravestones

As always, there are plenty of amusing tidbits on the gravestones.

  • Don't blame the river when you fall into the water
  • She was young and fair, until the Orcs cut off her hair
  • Note to self: Never stop to ask an Orc for directions.
  • Here lies Julian Pies - the terror of Berlin Kreuzberg.
  • Here lies Dr. A. Cula, died of a heart attack during a visit to the bloodbank.
  • There's nothing more to be said, as we only speak well of the dead.
  • I came into this world without consent and left in the same manner.
  • Here lies the town clockmaker, he ran out of time.
  • Lazy by nature, he finally finished something he started.
  • How was I to know that the outdoor plane toilet was a joke?
  • Little did I know that the boomerang would not come back alone.
  • Hey! Could you move two feet to the side? You're standing on me! Now you're standing on my husband. Just go away already.
  • Never clean a loaded cannon.
  • She cooked me a meal to die for.
  • Note to self: The messenger said: "Dragons don't need dentists", not "Dragons don't eat dentists."
  • Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana.
  • Never bite what may bite you back.
  • Beneath this stone my wife doth lie, now she's at rest and so am I.
  • At least my art is worth something now.
  • You are in a queue, please wait as we value your business.
  • Helloooooooooo... This isn't funny any more!
  • Sheesh, NOW they take me seriously.
  • Here lies my beloved husband - I miss him a lot, especially since he never told me where he hid all his money.
  • Make sure the kids haven't swapped your real sword for a toy one, BEFORE you go adventuring.
  • Dragon's are *always* right.
  • Contains a gamer's social life.
  • Food is an important part of a balanced diet.
  • Poor Jack always got it backwards. It's look then leap.
  • What do you mean they haven't invented parachutes yyyyyeeeetttttt?
  • So Ron thought to himself "this is a grave development."
  • Ascaron will not be held responsible for your starting grave-opening as a real life hobby.

Statues

There are a couple of quotes from Groucho Marx to be found in Arenmark's Refuge:

  • Military justice is to justice what military music is to music - Groucho Marx
  • I was married by a judge. I should have asked for a jury. - Groucho Marx

And there are some other notable quotes to be found here:

  • There is so much good in the worst of us, And so much bad in the rest of us, that it hardly behooves any of us to talk about the rest of us. - Hoch
  • I did not have 3000 pairs of shoes, I had one thousand and sixty. - Imelda Marcos
  • There cannot be a crisis next week. My schedule is already full. - Henry Kissinger
  • A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is braver five minutes longer. - Emerson

As well as some ordinary quotes:

  • Opportunity is missed by most people, because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
  • Helen Waite is now in charge of all rush orders. If you're in a hurry, just go to Helen Waite.
  • Consciousness: that annoying time between naps.
  • {quote}This statue levitates in the air - looks unbeautiful... {/quote} We LOVE bugreports.
  • Procrastination is the art of keeping up with yesterday.
  • I distrust camels, and anyone else who can go a week without a drink.
  • Why are there 5 syllables in the word 'monosyllabic'?

In the Catacombs

As with most other cemetaries in Ancaria, there is an underground section.

  • Three grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.
  • True happiness arises, in the first place, from the enjoyment of one's self, and in the next, from the friendship and conversation of a few select companions.
  • Here lies Sandolf Kramar, Architect at the court of King Karl-Franz.

Behind the sarcophagus in the underground chamber, there are two statues of angels.

  • Faith has to do with things that are not seen and hope with things that are not at hand.
  • Faith is reason grown courageous.
