An NPC ( Non-Player Character ) is a character in Ancaria that you can interact with, not associated with a player in the game; they are controlled by the game itself. Some of them play special roles, such as Quest Givers, Smiths, Merchants and Rune Masters. Others merely converse with you. What the NPC says may provide useful information later in the game. It may also be an indication of your esteem in the "community". The more quests you complete, the more you are appreciated.

Only NPC's that offer quest related information are indicated on the map or minimap. These will always be quest givers or rewarders and are indicated by a question mark ? icon or an exclamation ! icon.
