Talk to him to learn you have been chosen to try and take your place as a Dragon Mage, and that you need to talk to a dragon to proceed.
Talk to the dragon!
Well then. Looks like this is goodbye. I must admit that I envy you. But I always knew that you'd have your chance before me. You were always the better adept between us right from the very first day at the academy. Who knows, maybe it'll be my turn next year. And I sincerely hope that I don't have to take your place. So, off with you! I can't be bothered with long, sentimental farewells! Talk to the dragon and be on your way! I'll keep my fingers crossed!
Farewell!
Head East down the track and you'll see a large Blue Dragon, Orphas. Talking to Orphas also starts the Dragon Mage Class Chain Quest.

Perform your task!
Well then, pupil. You are on your own from here. You know the traditional rules you must adhere to: only if the dragon mage is destroyed by your hand will you take his place, receive the mark of the dragon and learn about the last secrets of dragon magic. So says the Word and so it must come to pass.
The part of the world you must travel might seem strange and unfamiliar to you. Even so, you will manage. the dragon mage whose place you are going to take lives in the northern regions of this continent. That is all I can tell you. Go and talk to Fangil. He is member of the local dragon mage conclave and will give you your target’s name. You can find Fangil in the city to the north.
Before I wish you Godspeed though, I have another task for you. Take this scroll. It is a message of the Dragon Prince N'kioam. He wants this message to be delivered to the oldest dragon that lives in this part of the world. His name is Mer-Kil. I entrust you with this task. It is your responsibility to ensure the message is safely delivered. Guard it with your life!
Go now. And may the dragon magic be with you!
After Orphas leaves, head North and then Southeast down to the beach – here you will find your starter chest, a Captain, and a Small Portal.
| ||
The Portal will not take you anywhere until you have spoken to the Captain. This is a one-way portal, so don’t use it until you’re sure you won’t want to come back. There are no enemies in the Dragon Mage’s starter area, however, there are usually one or two magical hiding places.
Speak to the Captain, then step into the Portal when you’re ready.
From the Golden Coast where you appear, head North into Happy Cow Farm, and follow the road North from there into Sloeford.
| ||
When you enter the center of Sloeford a message will pop up to tell you who you need to talk to next. For a Light campaign character this is the village elder, who will give you the first quest of your campaign, Levied Tax.

Notes
- Note: Unlike the other character classes who have more of a 'story-like' cut scene intro, the Dragon Mage cut scene merely shows you a glimpse of the start location.
